Welcome to my online teaching portfolio!
My name is Jennifer Penfield. I am the former Co-Director and Elementary Guide at Montessori In The Woods School in Erie, PA. I am a 2008 graduate of Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. I completed my Education coursework at Mercyhurst University in 2009 and attained Pennsylvania certification in Elementary Education, K-6.
I was a non-traditional student when I returned to college in 2006. I was able to be a stay-at-home mother and raise my two children before deciding to return to college and pursue my life long goal of becoming not just a teacher, but a teacher that makes a difference in the lives of children. Being a mother first allows me to bring a multitude of life experiences to my classroom.
Since receiving my certification I have had four long-term substitute positions. I had the opportunity to teach the Fifth Grade for two semesters, First Grade for one quarter, and Second Grade for an entire year. I was hired in 2013 as a Montessori teacher and in 2014 I was promoted to be the Co-Director/Educational Director in addition to my Elementary Guide position. I am most interested in continuing to pursue a path of excellence in education. I believe that my dedication to my students success is evidenced by the accomplishments that are highlighted in this portfolio.
